Hakusan x Deus
Part of the Deus Ex Machina Made in Japan Collection
Deus Ex Machina Japan have teamed up with Hakusan, the legendary Japanese optical frame makers to produce a special sunglass frame exclusively for Deus. The frame is finished in matte black with Hakusan’s high quality signatures like brass five prong hinges and hand finished acetate. Limited to 100 pcs and available only from Deus Ex Machina’s flagship and online stores.
This is Hakusan’s first collaboration with a brand outside Japan. Founded in 1883 Hakusan has maintained its position at the pinnacle of Japanese eyewear for quality and style. Most famously in the summer of 1979, John Lennon visited Japan with his wife, Yoko Ono. Lennon and Ono browsed MILKBOY, a pioneer store in the 1970s Japanese punk scene.
Lennon discovered Hakusan in the store and took a personal liking to Hakusan’s eyewear. The glasses that Lennon wore in 1980 were the Hakusan “Mayfair” model and the cost was approximately $400 US. Lennon owned three different coloured frames (clear, caramel-yellow, and honey-orange) & each style frame was fitted with three different coloured lenses (brown, green and blue), so he had 9 pairs of them in total.
